The University of Tulsa, The College Board*, and the Oklahoma State Department of Education will sponsor the 2008 Tulsa AP* and Pre-AP* Summer Institute to:

The one week workshops are offered on the University of Tulsa campus. The tuition includes instruction and materials, light breakfast, break refreshments, lunch and an evening reception.  It also includes double occupancy accommodations at a luxury hotel to participants who live more than 40 miles from Tulsa.   The Oklahoma State Department of Education offers state funding for Oklahoma Public School teachers.

Important Participant Information (Please Read):

Courses for NEW teachers are designed for teachers with less than two years’ experience teaching the AP* or Pre-AP* subject or those recently assigned to teach the course. These courses cover effective structuring of the course, practical and effective teaching strategies, and discussion of general content.

Courses for EXPERIENCED teachers are for those who have taught the AP* or Pre-AP* subject for two years or more. Discussions focus on effective teaching strategies, the AP* exam and reading, and of the content typically covered in the classroom.

WHERE:  All courses are held on the University of Tulsa Campus - 800 South Tucker Drive, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

WHEN:  On the Monday of each week of the conference the Institute begins at 8:00 a.m. with a short orientation. Classes meet Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon. 

REGISTER EARLY – CLASSES FILL AS EARLY AS MARCH: Class size is limited and registrations will be accepted on a space-available basis. More than 900 teachers registered  for the 2007 Institute, and many classes filled early and had long waiting lists. 

ENROLLMENT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:  Mailed, faxed and online registrations will receive an enrollment confirmation packet mailed to you at your home address provided within ten business days of our receipt of your registration.  Please contact our office if you have not received the enrollment confirmation packet within that time frame.

TUITION:  $625 per course.  The tuition covers instructional costs, materials, lunch, continental breakfast, evening reception, and double occupancy hotel accommodation for participants that live more then 40 miles from the Tulsa area.  AP Vertical Teams* Guides will be provided for all participants enrolled in Pre-AP* courses.

REFUND POLICY:  Tuition refunds will be issued for cancellations received in writing (emails accepted) up to two weeks in advance of the workshop start date.  Email your cancellation notice to beth-marinari@utulsa.eduRegistered participants will be responsible for the full tuition amount if the registered participant does not show or cancels after the two week cut off date. 

COURSE CANCELLATION:  Every effort is made to maintain course offerings; however, events such as instructor illness, inclement weather or insufficient enrollment may require schedule adjustments or course cancellations. We will notify registrants of any changes.

ATTENDANCE:  The Institute cannot accommodate children in the classrooms; only enrolled adult participants will be allowed in the classroom.   Oklahoma teachers must attend the entire Institute in order to earn a certificate. If you miss a portion of the Institute we are required to notify the Oklahoma State Board of Education, who may refuse to pay your tuition.

HOTEL:  Accommodations will be provided by the Downtown Doubletree Hotel located at 616 West 7th Street.  Up to five nights (Sunday – Thursday) of double occupancy accommodation is included in the $625 tuition if you live more than 40 miles from the Tulsa area.  A limited number of single occupancy rooms are available for an additional cost of $39 plus tax, per night.  Self-parking is included in all rates. Free internet access is available 24 hrs in the hotel lobby or may be accessed for a fee in the Business Center or in-room.  

HOTEL RESERVATIONS:  Reservations must be made directly with the Downtown Doubletree Hotel using the Hotel Room Reservation Form  Doubletree Hotel Reservation Form pdf. (mail or fax submission directly to the hotel) or the hotel reservation form included in your enrollment confirmation packet.    No phone or online reservations will be accepted. 

AIR TRAVEL:  Those making plane reservations should choose departure times after 1:30 p.m. on the last day of the Institute. When scheduling departing flights, please allow enough time to travel from The University of Tulsa to the airport and to clear security. Travel time to the Tulsa International Airport is approximately 15 minutes.

MEALS:  A continental breakfast is provided each morning of the institute in or near your classroom.  Lunch is served on campus Monday – Thursday.  There will be an evening reception/buffet for all AP* participants at the Doubletree Hotel on the Tuesday evening of each Institute.  Participants will be responsible for all other mealsPlease note any special dietary needs on your registration form and we will attempt to accommodate you.

SPECIAL NEEDS:  We make every effort to hold classes in rooms that are accessible to all participants. However, some buildings may not be readily accessible for wheelchairs. If you have any special needs, please include them on your registration form, and we will attempt to accommodate you.
