Description
This Pre-AP English section, taught by an experienced middle
school pre-AP teacher, delves into the introduction of analytical skills to
middle school students. This workshop will explore several areas, such as
novel units, writing skills, assessment writing, poetry analysis, and literary
elements, and how these areas can generate thought-provoking, substantiated
responses from students. Participants will also hear presentations on
case-specific literature in the middle school. Age and grade appropriate
activities and discussions to lead students to this type of higher-level
thinking will be offered and experienced.
What Participants Should Bring
1.Thirty copies of one creative activity.
Lead Consultant
Diana Bjornson graduated from the University of Houston - Victoria with a
degree in English and Language Arts with secondary certification. She has been
involved with implementing Pre-AP and AP programs at two different schools at
both the middle school and high school levels. This is her twelfth year as a
summer institute lead consultant. She was the 1996-97 Teacher of the Year at Jenks Central Middle School and the 2000-01 Teacher of the Year at Metro Christian Academy. Diana has experience in teaching both middle school and high school Pre-AP.
Presently she teaches American Literature at Union Intermediate High School in Tulsa, OK.
