Biography:

James E.  (Ed) Howell is from the Dallas Independent School District in Dallas, Texas, where he is an AP Lead Mathematics teacher.  His responsibilities include the mentoring of AP and pre-AP mathematics teachers in a wide range of learning environments from low performing reconstituted high schools to high performing magnet schools.  Mr. Howell has been a College Board consultant for the past 7 years and an AP Reader for both the AB and BC Calculus exams for the past 4 years.

Course Description:

This course will focus on the purpose of the AP program and how to strengthen and enhance it by promoting vertical teams.  Teachers will experience various strategies, activities, and assessment methods for a successful Pre-AP high school mathematics curriculum that promotes the growth of AP calculus.

Participants should bring a graphing calculator and a computer thumb drive with at least 256 mg capacity, and also a lesson, project, or activity to share with the class.
