BIOGRAPHY:

 

Jane Harlow – Jane is a master teacher of 33 years. She has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama where she also instructed college classes her senior year. She graduated with a triple major in Art, Biology and Physical Education. She was an AP Art Director for the O’Donnell Foundation and AP Strategies for 3 years in Dallas, TX.  Jane was presented the National Outstanding AP Studio Art Teacher of the Year in 1995.  She is the Co-Author of the National Vertical Team Guide for AP Studio Art, 1st and 2nd Edition.  She has been a College Board Consultant for APSA for 13 years, an APSA College Board Reader for 6 years and has taught APSA for 15 years.  She has also taught Pre-AP Art classes since 1970 and established the APSA art courses at Broken Arrow High School.  Jane was recognized by the CB in 1999 for student work on the National AP poster.  She has presented at both AP and Pre-AP SA workshops since 1994 in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arkansas.  She was the first APSA consultant to present workshops for the AP Experienced teachers in the Southwest regions.  Her greatest asset to the program is her ability to create innovative and original activities which lead to outstanding college level work in the high school AP Art courses.  She will share with you many tools that will benefit your teaching and aide the students in developing strong work ethics and successful art projects.

 

 BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

This Pre-AP Institute has been developed strictly for art teachers whose students feed eventually into the AP program.  Any fundamental art class is considered Pre-AP.  The main emphasis for this workshop is the development of a sequential curriculum that will lead to the mastery of skills needed for AP courses. Hands-on activities will offer the participants experience in creating Drawing, 2-D Design and 3-D design activities for the Emerging and Proficient art student.   Emphasis will also be on Vertical Teaming.  This will lead to discussions on how to work together for the SUCCESS OF THE STUDENT. There will be an explanation of the AP program and a breakdown of each of the AP portfolios.  You will receive many written lesson plans to help you establish your curriculum, and a CD with examples of images from those lesson plans.

Magazines such as National Geographic, Good Housekeeping

Pieces of Cardboard boxes (sides, bottom, top)

Drawing pencils, eraser

A roll of packing tape and an object such as a cup, pitcher or stuffed animal

A glue gun

Glue gun glue sticks

Junk collection of buttons, feathers, jewelry, lace, yarn, chains, beads, etc.

Rice paper

Sticks, plastic cups, fancy wire, tissue paper
