July 7-11, 2008

AP European History for Experienced Teachers

This course will offer advanced methodology and topical studies for the experienced AP European History teacher.

Topics and activities:

• Classroom strategies
• Topical European history studies
• Guest lecturers/field trip
• Sharing of lessons and classroom strategies
• Computer time for collegial work on new lessons

What participants should bring:

• AP European History text
• Flashdrive (at least 2G?) to take home all shared lessons
• Lesson or teaching strategy you would like to share with others (please bring electronic copy so that all can share)
• Lesson idea that you don’t ever seem to have time to bring to fruition and any materials that would help you create it

Lead Consultant

Patti Harrold is social studies department chair at Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, where she has taught AP European History, AP World History and AP U.S. History. She has been teaching for 32 years, primarily in Edmond, but also in Klein ISD and North Forest ISD, both in the Houston area. Ms. Harrold is a National Board certified teacher and AP Reader for European History and has been a College Board consultant for 16 years, presenting at more than 40 College Board and AP workshops and week-long institutes. She has written and edited many publications for AP histories, is currently writing an AP review book, and has recently worked with the Teaching American History grant program and served on a History Channel grant committee. She received the College Board’s Southwestern Region AP Special Recognition Award and the National Council for the Social Studies Secondary Teacher of the Year award in 2004. Ms. Harrold holds a BA from Oklahoma City University and an MS from Lamar University.
