AP English Literature and Composition
Course Description
AP English Literature and Composition Summer Institute Combined
June 23-27, 2008
The 2008 Summer AP English Literature and Composition Institute will focus upon various elements of an AP English Literature course. “Beowulf, Chaucer and Dante,” “Hamlet and The Tragic Hero,” “Oedipus and the College Admissions Essay,” “AP Comedy,” “Grammar in Context,” “The Metaphysical Poets,” “Ekphrasis,” “The Multiple Choice Question,” and a “Simulated Reading of the 2008 AP Examination” are just a few of the units that will be presented and studied. Participants, both experiences and inexperienced teachers, will be introduced to new and exciting AP strategies that they will be able to introduce immediately to their own courses. These strategies require higher order thinking and are designed to engage students and rejuvenate the high school curriculum.
Participants should bring 30 copies of a best practice (lesson or unit) to be presented on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
