Life Skills Workshops |
Sponsored by The Graduate School
In the course of your academic and professional career, you will have to discuss your work with an audience unfamiliar with your field of expertise. Whether you are making a formal presentation at a professional conference or simply discussing your work with possible sponsors or employers, knowing how to communicate your ideas across disciplines is a necessary skill in today’s world.
This workshop will discuss presentation and communication skills across disciplines, with a panel of faculty members discussing typical methods used for presentations in their own disciplines. While the methods discussed will primarily focus on presentation skills for professional meetings, you may also find some practices that could be used in other settings, like job interviews or presentations for research grants.
The purpose of this workshop is to help you:
· gain a better understanding of presentation styles and methods in other disciplines,
· identify presentation skills and/or methods from other disciplines that you might find useful for your own work,
· and learn to communicate discipline-specific research to people outside your field.
