Conditional Scholarships, Scholarship Policies and Guidelines

If qualified, admitted applicants to our law program will be automatically considered for merit based scholarships. There is no form required in order to be considered for scholarship. Currently 62% of the overall student body receives scholarship and specifically, 73% of the 2013 entering class receive scholarship. 71% of all admitted candidates during the 2012-2013 application cycle received a scholarship offer.

Scholarship increases: After the first year, we occasionally increase a scholarship for overwhelming academic merit, service to the College of Law, and demonstrated need. These increases are made on a case by case basis. In addition, students who serve as editors on our journals or who serve on the executive council for our Board of Advocates are eligible for additional scholarship stipends for their service to these organizations.

Need Based:

2.00 and up - Renew need based prior amount

Law Journals and BOA:

2.50 and up - Anything less can only be granted by the Dean

No Prior Scholarship Award:

TOP 15%: Scholarship award to be determined based on comparable scholarship equity, service, and need based factors.

Scholarship Retention Data by Year

In order to renew merit based scholarship, the College of Law requires scholarship recipients to be in good standing (maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0).  Please note that this policy is applicable beginning with the 2013 entering class.  Prior to 2013, the scholarship renewal was conditioned upon maintaining a certain GPA.  The below chart is a reflection of scholarship retention prior to the adoption of our current policy.

Refund Policy

Tuition and Fees

  1. General
    The tuition and special fee charges are set out in annual announcements of the College of Law.
  2. Effect of Nonpayment
    The University may suspend or withdraw students from classes and withhold grades, transcripts, and diplomas for failure to pay tuition and other charges when due. The University may also deny future enrollment for students with delinquent accounts.
  3. Refunds of Tuition upon Withdrawal
    If a student withdraws from any course at the University, he/she may receive reduction of tuition based upon the following schedule. The reduction shall be calculated from the date on which application for withdrawal is received in the Business Office. The University shall follow federally mandated refund schedules as they apply. Non-attendance of classes does not constitute an official withdrawal or drop.

    Refund Schedule for Fall/Spring Semesters:

    First day of classes – 100%
    Day 2 through end of first week – 90%
    Second and third week – 50%
    Fourth through seventh week – 25%
    Remainder of semester – 0%

    Refund Schedule for Summer Sessions:

    Withdrawal prior to the summer session - 100% refund
    First day of classes - 100% refund 
    Second through fourth day of classes - 80% refund
    Fifth through sixth day of classes - 50% refund
    Seventh through ninth day of classes - 25% 
    After day nine – 0% refund

Transfer of Credit Statement

Students who wish to transfer to the University of Tulsa College of Law must complete the following in the application process:

  1. Submit an application for admission and a personal statement to The University of Tulsa College of Law via LSAC. Be sure to check the transfer box on the application.
  2. Reactivate CAS account with LSAC.
  3. Arrange to have 2 letters of recommendation submitted. Letters of recommendation must be submitted through LSAC.
  4. Submit a statement which explains a reason for the transfer request.
  5. Arrange for the dean of your current law school to send a letter of good standing to our admissions office. This letter should also include class rank.
  6. Arrange for your current law school to send an official transcript reflecting a full year formal matriculation. If you have completed only one semester, a conditional decision will be made based upon hours completed. Acceptance will be contingent upon receipt of a transcript reflecting all matriculation including the second semester.
  7. A second letter of good standing will need to be sent when the final transcript is sent.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS AND GRADES
Admission with Advanced Standing
The Admission and Financial Aid Committee, in its discretion, may admit a transfer student with advanced standing subject to the following:

  1. The dean of the law school from which the transfer is sought shall certify in writing the applicant's good standing and the unconditional eligibility to re-enroll.
  2. The academic credit to be transferred shall have been earned in a law school which is approved or provisionally approved by the American Bar Association.
  3. The applicant shall meet all admission standards of the College and shall comply with the College's procedures for admission.
  4. A transfer with advanced standing shall be denied if no transferable law school credits have been earned within a period of three years prior to the commencement of the semester or summer session for which admission is sought.

Criteria For Transfer of Credit from Another Institution:
The University of Tulsa College of Law may accept credits from an ABA accredited law school where appropriate as determined by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. No transfer credit will be accepted for any course where a student earned a grade of C- or lower, and no transfer credit will be accepted for any ungraded course (including courses graded on a pass/fail basis or satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis). The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will determine the number of credits that will be accepted for transfer and the number of transfer hours to be credited toward the degree. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will determine whether the transfer credits courses satisfy specific graduation requirements and also determine the graduation requirements the student must still satisfy at the University of Tulsa.
