LLM 2010, JD 2012
Mbilike Mwafulirwa (JD '12, LLM '10) is a native of Malawi, a small nation in southeast Africa. In his time here at The University of Tulsa, Mbilike earned an LLM and then a JD degree to practice law.
While at TU Law, Mbilike has taken energy-focused courses such as International Environmental Law, Native American Natural Resources Law, Administrative Law and Environmental Law. He was also a part of the Energy Law Journal for two years. These classes, he says, "really helped me tap into my intellectual interest of the relationship between energy development and environmental conservation. I found it a worthwhile experience learning how regulation and development policies intersect."
After receiving his LLM degree at TU Law, Mbilike decided to continue his studies, and transfered directly to the JD program. He did so, he says, to "give myself the widest range of opportunities possible...the JD would open all the 50 states to me." Now with both an LLM and a JD in hand, Mbilike's professional aspirations lead him in the direction of working within the realm of litigation.
As for his time at The University of Tulsa College of Law as an international student, Mbilike is very enthusiastic about his reception. "I feel like because of my TU community's support and reception, I have had a very enriching experience at TU. I honestly feel that my knowledge and experiences at TU Law have left me immeasurably informed and prepared to go and make a mark in the energy sector and other areas of law, too."
