Student captured Kendall College’s early years
Perhaps she would be pleased and surprised to know her work would be cherished and published a century later. Marie Edna Whitehill graduated from Henry Kendall College in 1911. She came from the tiny Oklahoma town of Chelsea and obviously developed deep affection for Tulsa’s new college.
Whether she was snapping athletic events or capturing dorm life, which was beautifully reflected in an expansive collection of photographs, Marie had a great eye for composition and a playful perspective.
Lois McHargue, Marie’s daughter, gave the Whitehill collection to TU in 2007, a grand addition to the McFarlin Special Collections.
