Rent an SUV at the TU campus for $5 an hour during the winter break

Holiday PromoConnect by Hertz, which currently offers reasonably priced hourly car rentals on The University of Tulsa campus, is offering a holiday promotion in which new and existing members can rent an SUV for $5 an hour.

The winter break special runs from Dec. 17 through Jan. 9 for the two Connect vehicles located at TU.

Connect by Hertz provides members with the assurance that if they need to run an errand or leave campus for any reason, a car is easily accessible.

All TU students, faculty and staff can sign up for the program at www.connectbyhertz.com by using the promotional code GOGREEN2010. Annual membership fees of $50 will be waived until Dec. 31. Annual renewal fees are $25.

To qualify for Connect by Hertz car sharing, potential members must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. A valid credit or debit card and proof of address also is required. Cars are equipped with Eileo® technology, and benefits covered by the hourly rate include gas, insurance, NeverLost® in-car GPS turn-by-turn navigation, 24/7 roadside assistance, 24-hour Member Care Center communication, and 180 free miles per day. Drivers must pay for their own tickets or traffic violations and will be charged a $250 deductible if the vehicle is damaged.

Two Ford Escape SUVs parked on the TU campus normally are available for rent for a regular rate of $9 an hour or $68 per day. Vehicles can be rented 24 hours a day, seven days a week after members receive their enrollment packet. One vehicle is located at Allen Chapman Activity Center, and another is parked in the Westby Lot.

Once enrolled, members will receive an access card, personal identification number and a member number that will allow them to access the vehicle. Inside the car, users will find an ignition key and a Hertz-monitored gas card, both of which will operate only if the vehicle is accessed properly.

Vehicles must be returned to the original marked parking space in a clean condition with no less than ¼ tank of gas. Any unauthorized vehicle parked in a Connect by Hertz space will be towed immediately. The Connect by Hertz program is in keeping with TU’s efforts to promote sustainability and maintain an environmentally friendly campus.

Connect by Hertz, The Hertz Corporation’s global car sharing club, has more than 700 vehicles, 20,000 members and more than 300 locations worldwide, including corporate offices and universities. Connect by Hertz offers vehicles in the Personal, Social and Jet Set Collections; all are available for online reservation at competitive rates.
