TU remains among top 50 private universities in the nation, Oklahoma's only top 100 university, according to latest U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News & World Report's 2013 edition of Best Colleges has named The University of Tulsa as the 83rd best national research university.
This marks the 10th consecutive year that TU has been listed in the top 100 national universities – the only Oklahoma university to be included in the top 100. The publication's 2013 rankings, released on Sept. 12, also show TU is 48th among the nation's private doctoral universities.
TU slid a bit after achieving its highest position ever in the survey last year. In the 2012 report, TU was in a seven-way tie for the #75 position. This year, TU is in a six-way tie for #83, which makes the drop virtually insignificant, said Roger Blais, TU provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Despite the slight decline, TU remains committed to the standards that have solidified its standing in the top 100: academic quality of its student body, recruitment of top faculty, and revitalization and expansion of its physical campus. Last year, TU completed a comprehensive campaign that raised more than $698 million. Thanks to the campaign, TU added $119 million in scholarship endowments and 1,182 new awards. The fundraising also led to $87 million in faculty endowments and 47 new endowed positions.
"The University of Tulsa continues to strive to become a top 50 university. Every day, TU seeks ways to become a better institution to our students, our faculty, our community, and our research and industry partners," Blais said. "TU consistently delivers an extraordinary educational experience for academically talented students in the most cost-effective way possible."
TU's dedication to providing a personal learning environment is evident: Less than 3 percent of TU's classes contain 50 or more students. The only other top 100 schools with a lower percentage in this category were American University, Fordham University, Pepperdine University, Wake Forest University, University of San Diego and Yeshiva University.
