Getting Started Checklist
Before you study abroad…
make sure you:
- stop by the Center for Global Education (CGE) for an initial "Walk-In" Packet.
- join the "goglobal" e-mail listserv for weekly updates on CGE news, events, updates and important information on TU's study abroad programs & opportunities-- send an email to globaleducation@utulsa.edu to be added to the listserv
- attend a MANDATORY Study Abroad Info Session EVERY Monday at 12:00 and EVERY Thursday at 4:00 at the CGE House (center of sorority row)

fill out an advising application. Also look at program materials in the CGE study abroad library
- go to the CGE online application to register and research program options in our online database

apply for a new Passport/Renew your Passport (if necessary)
- make an appointment through Shanna Blount, CGE Office Manager, to meet an Advisor for a Study Abroad Advising meeting.
- complete the online study abroad application through the CGE online application by posted deadline and bring additional documents to the CGE.
- apply to the CGE pioneer scholarship (if you are going to a new country/city/program) by the posted study abroad application deadline.
- complete the Program Provider OR Host University application and bring to the CGE to be mailed at least 7 days prior to the Program's posted deadline.
- once approved by the CGE, fill out the post-acceptance tabs of your CGE online application.
- once accepted into your study abroad program, please notify the CGE by updating your CGE account.
- begin application process for obtaining a student visa (if required by your host country)
- plan to attend the MANDATORY Pre-Departure Orientation to prepare for your time abroad
- make an appointment through Shanna Blount, CGE Office Manager, to complete MANDATORY "Final Advising meeting" wiith a CGE Staff member. During the meeting you will discuss your study abroad budget, visas and medical issues.
- Students receiving Federal Financial Aid or any TU Scholarships MUST submit the approved budget form to the Financial Aid Office before awards will be released
- enroll for special Study Abroad courses with your TU College Advisor to maintain your student status during the term you plan to study abroad
- inform the CGE of your program dates and travel itinerary by updating your CGE database account
- purchase CISI Health Insurance at the CGE (if required by your program)
- apply for and pick up your International Student Identity Card (ISIC) at the TU Parking/ID Office next to the cafeteria in Fisher
- make arrangements with the Business Office for Financial Aid/Scholarship refunds to be disbursed (if applicable)
- cancel on-campus housing
- pack your bags, say goodbye to family and friends, and get ready to fly!
- let the CGE know you've safely arrived to your host country and give us your host contact information (including cell phone number) for your time abroad by updating your CGE account.
