About the Department

The Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences is physically located in Keplinger Hall at 4th and Gary. The departmental offices are in room U337 which is in the northeast corner of the upper floor. Faculty offices are nearby. The department offers a variety of degree plans that allow students to customize their coursework to meet their career objectives. We also provide the rest of the university with service courses in mathematics and computer science

Mathematics

In Mathematics we offer both the B.A. and a B.S. degrees. They provide our students with a sound foundation in mathematics. The B.A. program serves students who wish also to study languages and liberal arts, whereas the B.S. program as for those who are more interested in the physical sciences and/or computer science.

The B.S. in applied mathematics comes with five possible options: computer sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, business, and education. Each student must select one option and meet its requirements. The options provide a field of application for the mathematics student. All options carry the same mathematics requirement but differ in required support subjects.

Computer Science

Our Computer Science programs offer students a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics and emphasize supporting study in the physical sciences.  The B.S. is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone: 410-347-7700. Graduates of these programs go on to pursue graduate study or industrial and business careers.

We also offer an information systems technology major which provides students a strong foundation in computer science together with supporting subjects selected from professional business courses.
