Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Education option

The B.S. in Mathematics with Education option provides students a solid foundation in mathematics and provides all coursework needed for teacher certification at the Secondary level. In addition to having a faculty advisor from mathematics, students will also work with the School of Education on specific requirements regarding teacher certification.

Course requirements for this degree plan include:

  • 27 credits of Mathematics Professional Courses listed below except students can choose between MATH 3553 and MATH 4083 plus 4 additional Math electives (12 credits) at the 3000 level and above
  • 25 credits of Tulsa curriculum Block I, II and III courses (NOTE: This major requires 2 Block III courses including 1 with a laboratory)
  • 9 credits including ENGL 1033, Exposition and Argumentation; Engl 3003, Writing for the Profession and CS 1043 or 2503
  • 31 credits of Education coursework including:
    • EDUC 1011, EDUC 2104, EDUC 3713, EDUC 3733, EDUC 4214, EDUC 4013, EDUC 4971, EDUC 4626, and EDUC 4636 
  • 20 credits of General Electives

    124 credits required for degree

To become a candidate for a degree in mathematics, a student must complete all mathematics courses in the curriculum with a grade-point average of at least 2.0, and earn a 2.0 or better overall.
