Helmerich Hall School of Accounting and Management Information Systems

The primary mission of the University of Tulsa's School of Accounting and MIS is to provide educational programs that prepare students for the role of business information professionals with expertise in analysis and reporting, translating complex information into critical knowledge, and decision-making. Our programs are designed to help educate students as leaders in a world that requires information and knowledge.

Distinguished Lecturer Doctor Carol Stoak Saunders

A war of words on the Internet

During the Fall 2008 semester, The Collins College of Business at The University of Tulsa welcomed Carol Stoak Saunders as the featured guest speaker for our Distinguished Lecturer Series. Saunders is a highly respected researcher in the fields of MIS and Management, and provided two talks for the Tulsa community. The first, entitled "A Subtle War of Words on the Internet," focused on what the future holds regarding the use of language on the Internet. Her insights were extremely important and timely in light of the changing demographics of Internet users and the fact “that language use is related to power issues for individuals, groups, and nations”.  Saunders' second talk, entitled "A Perspective on the Fiduciary Relationship in Information Security Services and its Governance," focused on her research in the area of IS management and offered a number of insightful perspectives for how governance structures impact security within an organization.

Department of Economics

The Economics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences offers a BSBA within the Collins College of Business.

Energy Management Program

Through an energy-focused, interdisciplinary curriculum, this program prepares students for careers in the upstream or mid-stream sectors of the global energy industry. The Energy Management major is for those students interested in graduating with a unique business degree available at only a few schools—TU is the only private institution offering an Energy Management major.

Department of Finance and Operations Management

The curriculum places major emphasis on three areas of finance: financial management, investments and portfolio management, and financial markets and institutions. The finance program is designed to educate students in all areas of business, because the finance profession involves interaction with all of these areas.

International Business and Entrepreneurship Institute

This degree program combines three components: (1) education in foundations of business and functional areas of international business, (2) development of greater familiarity with cultural imperatives, and (3) advanced training in French, German, Spanish, or Russian.

Department of Management and Marketing

The Management major offers in-depth study of issues in organizational behavior, human resource management, negotiation skills and business law. The Marketing major provides exposure to the fundamental aspects of marketing including consumer behavior, marketing research, and marketing strategy, along with a number of electives to allow a student to design a course of study that helps them achieve their individual goals.
