Writing Center

Welcome

The Writing Center offers one-on-one assistance with writing projects to all University of Tulsa students. You can bring in assignments from any class or bring in personal writing projects like résumés.

You can come in at any stage of the project: to formulate ideas, to develop and organize a draft, to edit a near final version, or anything in between. During a session, a writing consultant will help you identify problems and come up with solutions.

Mission Statement

The University of Tulsa Writing Center will support the university community’s writing endeavors in all aspects of the composing process. The primary goal of the Writing Center is to enhance classroom instruction by providing personal and in-depth guidance to student writers. Writing Center consultants are skilled in diagnosing weaknesses in student writing and in helping students learn to write professionally and confidently. Additionally, the consultants are experienced in helping ESL students tackle the demands of writing in English. The consultants will work with students in a collaborative effort to engage in the writing process as a whole, from brainstorming to editing, focusing on the revision and rewriting of the work at hand. From generating the initial ideas to polishing the final draft, the Writing Center will offer a constructive, hands-on approach to writing, enabling students to express themselves with confidence and clarity. The Writing Center will provide a “second set of eyes” throughout students’ undergraduate careers, reminding them that the best writing is never accomplished alone.

Location

The Writing Center is located in Chapman Hall in the northwest corner of the main lobby.
