John K. Roth Holocaust Scholar to Speak at TU Oct. 15

John K. Roth, the Russell K. Pitzer professor of philosophy at Claremont McKenna College, will give a lecture titled “After-Words: Post-Holocaust Struggles with Forgiveness, Reconciliation and Justice” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the McFarlin Library’s Faculty Study. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is part of the course, “Confronting the Holocaust: Questions of Life and Faith.”

An internationally recognized scholar in Holocaust and American Studies, Roth has lectured widely around the world and has authored, coauthored or edited more than 30 books. His books include “Approaches to Auschwitz: The Holocaust and Its Legacy” (with Richard L. Rubenstein), “The Questions of Philosophy” (with Frederick Sontag), “American Diversity, American Identity; Different Voices: Women and the Holocaust” (edited with Carol Rittner) and “Private Needs, Public Selves: Talk about Religion in America.”

Roth has served on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in Washington, D.C. and has chaired the California Council for the Humanities. He serves on the selection committee for the Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics and on the editorial boards of the “Journal of the American Academy of Religion,” “American Journal of Theology & Philosophy,” “American Philosophical Quarterly,” “International Journal for Philosophy of Religion” and “Holocaust and Genocide Studies.”
