Festival of Lessons and Carols at TU's Allen Chapman Activity Center on Dec. 7
Thursday, November 20, 2003
In celebration of the Advent season, the public is invited to the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Great Hall of The University of Tulsa’s Allen Chapman Activity Center, located at Fifth Place and Gary Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
The festival will feature readers from The University of Tulsa community and the T.U. Chorale, directed by Marilyn Carver. The service of lessons and carols was first conceived for use in the Truro Cathedral in the late nineteenth century. It was simplified and adapted for use in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge in 1918, by Dewan Eric Milner-White.
One of the traditions of Advent and Christmas in England, the festival is a form of worship featuring readings, prayers, and choral and congregational song. The service was first conceived in the Truro Cathedral in the late 19th century. In 1918 the festival was simplified and adapted for use in the King’s College Chapel, Cambridge.
