TU Professor F. Russell Hittinger Named to the Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas

F. Russell Hittinger, the Warren Professor of Catholic Studies in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at The University of Tulsa, was recently appointed to the Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas, which is considered to be the premier theological academy of the Catholic Church.

Appointments to PAST are by invitation only and include only a small number of Americans. The academy was created by Leo XIII in 1879 and its roots go back to the theological academy founded by Clement XII at the start of the 18th Century. Hittinger will attend his first meeting this spring and will be inducted at that time.

Hittinger is an internationally recognized contributor to contemporary debates in jurisprudence, law and ethics. He has held positions at the Catholic University of America, Princeton University, Fordham University and New York University.

He is currently a member of the ethics task force of the St. Francis Health Care System in Tulsa. Hittinger serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Jurisprudence and First Things. His many honors include the Josephine Yalch Zekan Award for the best scholarly article in faith and law and a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship.
