Kalpana Misra, associate professor of political science at The University of Tulsa, was named Scholar of the Year by the Oklahoma Political Science Association.

Misra received the award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field during this year’s Oklahoma Political Science Association Conference at Oklahoma Baptist University, November 5-6.

“I am very happy and honored to receive this award,” said Misra. “Research and scholarship are rewarding in themselves, but to have one’s efforts recognized in this way is especially gratifying.”

Misra has taught at TU for 10 years. Her areas of expertise include comparative politics, political theory and world politics. She recently published a book titled “From Post Maoism to Post Marxism: The Erosion of Official Ideology in Deng’s China,” published by Routledge.

Misra earned a bachelor’s degree (1975) and master’s degree (1977) from the University of Dehli in India. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (1992).

“I am very proud Kalpana has received this award,” says Eldon Eisenach, chairman of TU’s political science department. “She is the second member of our department to be recognized in this way by the Oklahoma Political Science Association.”

The Oklahoma Political Science Association is an organization of 35 political science departments at Oklahoma colleges and universities.
