ARTH 6093 - American Art
This course will introduce students to American art from the 16th to the 21st century. This course will put the work of these artists into a broader cultural, historical, social, and political context touching on subjects such as art and conquest, the mapping of new terrain, defining America, representation of republican virtue, nature and nation, art and commerce, machine aesthetics, modernism, defining identities in a multicultural America, and from the Cold War to the culture wars.
