ARTH 6923 - Post-Impressionism through Abstract
This course covers developments in art and visual culture from ca. 1880 to the mid-20th century covering artistic developments such as Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Constructivism, Dada, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism. This course will put the work of these artists into a broader cultural, historical, social, and political context and examine various discourses that shaped the art of the twentieth century such as Modernism, the impact of modern technology and science, primitivism, and colonialism, and the two World Wars. Slide lecture and discussion.
