Conference on Language Development at TU Brings in Top Linguists

A group of well-known linguists will convene to discuss language development at the 16th annual Comparative Literature Symposium on The University of Tulsa campus, next Friday, April 14, 2006.

“Towards a Unified Framework in Developmental Linguistics 2” will be of interest to teachers, instructors, speech therapists, psychologists and others interested in language evolution and human development in societies according to organizer Dr. Eduardo D. Faingold, associate professor of Spanish in the language department at TU.

The symposium, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Faculty Study of McFarlin Library, 5th Place and Florence, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Participating linguists include Michel DeGraff, MIT; Jerold A. Edmondson, University of Texas at Arlington; Elly van Gelderen, Arizona State University; Lamont Lindstrom, University of Tulsa; Salikoko Mufwene, University of Chicago; and Almeida Jacqueline Toribio, Penn State University. Other participants from TU include Lydie Meunier, associate professor of French and Lamont Lindstrom, professor of anthropology.

The symposium is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and TU.
