TU Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Concert April 18
Monday, April 12, 1999
The University of Tulsa Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert on Sunday, April 18 at 3 p.m. in the Great Hall of TU’s Allen Chapman Activity Center, located north of Eighth Street and Florence Avenue. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Symphonic Band, directed by TU’s Director of Bands Ken Grass, will feature TU saxophone professor Linda Naylor on “Concertante” by Clare Grundman, a contemporary classical piece, and “Persuasion” by Sam Nestico, which borders on the pop and jazz areas. Naylor has been noted as a “World Class Saxophone Artist” by the “International Saxophone Journal.”
Steve Vento, a candidate for a master’s of music education at TU, will be the guest conductor. He will direct Kenneth Alfred’s march “Eagle Squadron,” and Jeff Jordan’s modern selection “Olana.”
The TU Wind Ensemble, which is directed by TU professor O. Dean Coale, will perform selections including: “American Overture” by Joseph Willcox Jenkins, “In Storm and Sunshine” a march by J.C. Heed, and “Lincolnshire Posy” by Percy Grainger. The TU Wind Ensemble was a featured College Band at the Oklahoma Music Educators State Convention in Tulsa earlier this year.
