Monday, October 20, 2003
Widely acclaimed as one of America’s premier instrumental ensembles, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in Kendall Hall at The University of Tulsa. Parking is available at Fifth Place and Florence Avenue. The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets for the event are sold out.
Popularly known as the LAGQ, the quartet of John Dearman, Scott Tennant, Andrew York and William Kanengiser has given recitals in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, and New York’s Alice Tully Hall, as well as at Carnegie Hall. They have toured in Europe and Asia, and were featured at the Hong Kong, Singapore and Manila International Arts festivals.
Highlights of the LAGQ’s 2002-03 season included the release of a new CD titled: “LAGQ – Latin,” featuring their popular transcription of Bizet’s Carmen, along with works from Chile, Cuba and new original works by the quartet. Their first CD, “L.A.G.Q.,” debuted in the top 15 on the Billboard Classical Crossover charts and remained there for six months.
In recent years, the LAGQ has been heard on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and has been featured on CNN’s “Show Biz Today,” CBS’s “Saturday Morning” and the A&E Network’s “Breakfast with the Arts.”
