Friday, February 06, 2004

Registration deadline is Feb. 27 for The University of Tulsa’s Chem-E-Car Competition in which teams of high school students build model cars powered by chemical reactions formulated to travel an exact distance.

The contest will be held April 27 in the lower level of TU’s Keplinger Hall, home of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Prizes include $300, $200 and $100 for the top three teams coming closest to the finish line. Cars must travel 20 to 45 feet, but the exact distance won’t be revealed until shortly before the competition. Remote control is not permitted.

Vehicles must fit into a box that is 12 inches by 12 inches by 18 inches. Teams should be composed of at least five students. A teacher or adviser’s assistance is allowed.

Teams may register by calling Laura Ford or Christi Patton in TU’s chemical engineering department at (918) 631-2226 or by visiting www.ce.utulsa.edu/CarCompetition/CarComp.html.
