Graduate and Professional Programs
The department offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The M.S. degree can be combined with a B.S. in a fast-track program, or pursued separately.
B.S./M.S. Degree Program
The combined B.S./M.S. degree program allows highly motivated students to earn a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in chemistry in five years. The combined program requires the same number of credits and level of work as the current bachelor’s and master’s (thesis option) degree programs.
The typical undergraduate student will apply to the Graduate School for admission to the combined program at the end of the sophomore year or the beginning of the junior year. A minimum of 60 hours of undergraduate course work is required. Because of the rigor and pace of this program, a minimum of a 3.4 undergraduate GPA is required for admission. Students interested in the combined B.S./M.S. should contact the Graduate Advisor or any faculty member of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry for more information concerning the program.
