“Income-Based Loan Repayment and Forgiveness Under the New Federal Law”
Thursday, November 5, 2009
Noon • Room 203 • John Rogers Hall
3120 E. 4th Pl. • The University of Tulsa
Professor Philip G. Schrag, Delaney Family Professor of Public Interest Law and Director of the Center for Applied Legal Studies, Georgetown University Law Center, will discuss the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA), a federal program that went into effect in July 2009. CCRAA enables college and professional school graduates with high student debt and lower incomes to manage their loan repayment through an income-based repayment plan. CCRAA also allows certain graduates working for government agencies and non-profit organizations to receive loan forgiveness for their remaining educational debt after 10 years in public service employment. Professor Schrag's presentation will help students and graduates understand how the program operates and how it may assist them in their career and financial planning. The lecture is free and open to the public and boxed lunches will be provided, while supplies last.
