"The FCPA is Not A Foreign Language: Why Every Company and In-House Counsel Should Take Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Concerns Seriously"
Lanesha Anderson is Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at ABM Industries Incorporated, the nation’s largest integrated facility management company.
ABM is a Fortune 600 company with over $4 billion in revenue annually. Ms. Anderson provides legal oversight to three of the four business units of this publicly traded company with over 100,000 employees worldwide. She reports directly to the General Counsel and the Executive Vice President for the company.
Ms. Anderson’s responsibilities include managing all international business, ethics and compliance, mergers and acquisitions, joint venture, subsidiary governance, government contracting and compliance, managing commercial litigation, and acting as Assistant Corporate Secretary. Most recently, she assumed responsibility for the legal support of AirServ, ABM’s new division that employs over 13,000 people servicing airports throughout the U.S. and in Europe.
Prior to her role at ABM, Ms. Anderson worked for two Global Fortune 100 companies and one AmLaw 100 law firm. At Shell Oil, she served as Senior Legal Counsel. She managed the legal support for the production start-up of the company’s $19 billion capital investment project as an expat in Qatar. She also served as lead counsel for two downstream businesses advising senior business leaders on a broad range of legal matters.
At Sprint Nextel, she worked as Corporate Counsel where she negotiated multi-million dollar sales and strategic partnership agreements in a general counsel capacity.
Ms. Anderson’s law firm experience was at the international law firm K & L Gates where her practice was primarily focused on mergers and acquisitions, securities and general corporate transactions. Her experience as Editor-in-Chief of the Energy Law Journal caught the attention of K & L Gates where she represented clients from various industries.
Ms. Anderson has been honored frequently by numerous publications including Black Enterprise, the Houston Business Journal, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Network Journal. She has been handling multi-billion dollar transactions since very early in her career.
Her national civic engagement has included the Board of Trustees of the National Urban league where she served as Co-Chair of the Centennial Commission. Under her leadership, over $50 million was raised to benefit this great organization and the underserved communities it assists. Ms. Anderson has also represented the United States as a member of the US trade delegation to China.
Her local civic engagement has included the Center for Houston’s Future, the United Way Women’s Initiative and the Houston Business Education Commission. She is a Member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Texas Bar Association.
Ms. Anderson earned her Juris Doctor with honors from The University of Tulsa. She also holds an MBA from The University of Tulsa and a Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude from St. Louis University.
