Paul Finkelman, a nationally-known scholar on slavery and the Chapman Distinguished Professor of Law at The University of Tulsa College of Law, will be featured on a nationally-televised PBS documentary on abolitionist John Brown that will air during Black History Month.
The documentary, “The American Experience: John Brown’s Holy War,” will be broadcast nationally on Monday, Feb. 28. KOED-Ch. 11 will carry the program locally on that date at 9 p.m.
Finkelman served as an advisor to PBS during the production of the documentary. He is also one of the interviewees in the program.
Brown is known for his militant abolitionist activities, most notably the raid on the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Va., in 1859, which established him as a martyr to the anti-slavery cause.
In addition to the documentary, PBS will launch a web site incorporating an interactive history of John Brown and his role in the abolition movement with educational materials tied to his crusade. The web site, which launches on Feb. 4, can be found at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/brown/.
