Minority high school and college students who may be considering a law degree now have until Feb. 13 to register for Diversity Day, sponsored by The University of Tulsa College of Law, on Feb. 20. This free event will be held at the Tulsa Community College (TCC) Northeast Campus, 3727 E. Apache near Harvard Avenue. To sign up, students should contact Tony Alonso, TCC dean of Student Outreach and Civic Engagement, at (918) 595-7838.

Diversity Day is part of National Minority Law Student Recruitment Month, funded by the Law School Admission Council to raise awareness of minority recruiting issues facing law schools. The TU College of Law, Tulsa Community College and the Mayor’s Office of Education Diversity and Community Outreach have joined efforts for this purpose.

“You see increased numbers of minority students and minority faculty at the nation’s law schools, although not enough,” said George Justice, TU assistant dean of law school admissions. “In view of the challenge to affirmative action, we must do more to make people of diverse backgrounds feel welcome at our law schools.”

Diversity Day will begin with a panel discussion by legal professionals; followed by presentations by representatives from the TU law school admissions office and student financial services; and end with a panel of current minority law students. A catered buffet lunch is included.
