John R. Woodard spoke to members and guests of the American Association of Subcontractors of Oklahoma on October 20 at the association’s monthly meeting. The presentation addressed how to stay out of court, and what companies or individuals should do if they end up there as a defendant or plaintiff.

Toni D. Hennike has been named Coordinator of International Investments and Arbitration with Exxon Mobil’s law department in Houston. She has been with Exxon Mobil since 1992 and has held two affiliate general counsel positions within the company.

William B. Federman was chosen to speak at a Directors and Officers Liability Insurance roundtable discussion in Houston.  He discussed class actions and how the class actions filed today are affected by anti-corporate sentiments, government regulation, settlement barriers, increasing costs and bankruptcy filings.

Kathy Neal has joined the Tulsa office of McAfee & Taft. Neal practices labor and employment law. 

Kenneth Crump has joined the Tulsa office of Barber & Bartz. Crump practices contract disputes, employment issues, construction law, business torts and family law matters and serves as an adjunct settlement judge for the U.S. Federal Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma and on the panel of arbitrators for the National Arbitration Forum. 

Mitchell Cohen has been appointed general counsel of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. He started his legal career with the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office.

Robert J. Joyce has joined the Tulsa office of McAfee & Taft. Joyce practices complex environmental, toxic tort, and regulatory matters. 

David M. Winfrey has joined the Tulsa office of McAfee & Taft. Winfrey practices environmental, occupational health and safety, and transportation law.

Roger K. Eldredge has joined Ladner & Little PLLC in Tulsa as a member. He will practice real estate acquisition and development, construction law, commercial law, and general commercial litigation.

Christiaan D. Horton was named one of the “40 Under 40” by the Springfield Business Journal. He practices in the areas of civil litigation and business, personal injury, environmental, construction, and real estate law. Horton was a member of Leadership Springfield Class XVI and was named one of the “40 Under 40” in 2002.

Catina R. Drywater, Esquire, of Tulsa was presented the Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service by Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Antonin Scalia. The presentation took place on October 17, 2009, during the Celebration of Excellence at the U.S. Supreme Court. The American Inns of Court established the award to honor an American Inn member in practice 10 or fewer years for excellence in public interest or pro bono activities. Drywater’s peers nominated her in recognition of her efforts to expand access to justice.

Laura Eakens has joined the firm of Holden Carr & Skeens in Tulsa. Eakens practices general civil litigation in areas including railroad, employment, and medical malpractice.

Daniel Carsey will join the Oklahoma City office of Conner & Winters. He will focus on environmental, energy, and business matters. He earned his J.D. with honors and clerked for Judge Earl S. Hines at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas after graduation.

John Erin McCabe joined Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A. as a new associate. McCabe will be working in the bankruptcy department of its Cincinnati office.

Phillip J. Jennings has joined the firm Eller & Detrich PC in Tulsa as an associate.  He will practice estate and trust planning, probate, litigation, and commercial transactions.

Chris K. Miller has joined the Tulsa office of McAfee & Taft. Miller is a registered patent attorney who practices intellectual property law. 

J. Andrew Brown joined Atkinson, Haskins, Nellis, Brittingham, Gladd & Carwile of Tulsa as an associate.

B.Taylor Clark  joined Hornbeek Vitali & Braun PLLC in Oklahoma City as an associate with the firm. 

Sarah Powers was named an associate in the Tulsa office of GableGotwals.  From 2004-2006, she served as a liaison assistant for the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Washington, D.C.

Melissa Taylor was named an associate in the Tulsa office of GableGotwals. 

Rhiannon K. Thoreson joined Atkinson, Haskins, Nellis, Brittingham, Gladd & Carwile of Tulsa as an associate.

Lauren Madden Williams has joined Pray Walker PC in Tulsa as an associate. She will work in the firm’s business law group.

In Memoriam

Bruce Harlton of Tulsa, 78, died October 12, 2009. He served in the Air Force and in the 125th Squadron of the 138th Air National Guard during the post-Korean Conflict and the Cold War. He was admitted to the bar in 1960 and practiced criminal and family law at his general practice in Tulsa.
