Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt (JD ’93) recently presented fellow TU College of Law graduate Michon Hughes (JD ’08) the 2011 Award for Excellence in Action Against Domestic Violence in the category of Prosecutor.
Presented to Hughes in the Oklahoma State Capitol in October, the award is given by the Attorney General’s office to honor Oklahomans who work tirelessly against domestic violence. As Assistant District Attorney for Wagoner County, she worked to protect victims, asked for "no contact" orders for every domestic violence suspect, and won stiff sentences for those convicted. Hughes is now in private practice in Tulsa at Miller-Hughes Law, PLLC.
"Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects thousands of Oklahoma families each year," Attorney General Pruitt said. "We must continue to raise awareness of the problem and find new ways to prevent and end the cycle of violence."
As part of the Fourth Annual Excellence in Action Against Domestic Violence Awards, Pruitt also presented a Law Enforcement Office Award to Sgt. Regeneia Van Arsdale of the Ponca City Police Department and a Victim Service Advocate Award to Marcia Aceves, the shelter manager for the Northwest Domestic Crisis Services in Woodward.
