This program is designed to offer law students the opportunity to develop an advanced understanding of tax issues while receiving training in law. Students attend a campus-based law program while completing a Master of Taxation degree online.

General Information:
In this joint degree program, the College of Law accepts three graduate tax courses towards the 88 hours required for the Juris Doctor degree. In addition, two law courses are accepted by the College of Business Administration towards the requirements for the Master of Taxation degree. Through this cross-application of credits, a candidate can reduce by 15 credit hours the total number of credits that would be required to earn the two degrees separately. At the conclusion of the program, the candidate will be awarded both a J.D. and Master of Taxation degree. The Joint Degree generally requires 79 law hours and 24 graduate hours.

Students must apply separately for admission to the College of Law and the Graduate Master in Taxation program. Upon admission to both programs, a student may apply for acceptance to the joint degree program. Generally this must occur no later than during the first year of law school.

Candidates must meet the academic standards of both the College of Law and the Graduate School.

Law students may begin the Master of Taxation courses when they have completed 28 hours of law courses.

Students are eligible to participate in all extracurricular activities of both colleges.
