Nichole SaundersFor a law student with bachelor's and master's degrees in environmental biology and a desire to work in environmental law, a job with the Sierra Club is as good as it gets.

Second-year TU Law student Nichole Saunders will spend this summer as an intern in the Sierra Club’s Environmental Law Program in San Francisco. The program develops and prosecutes the legal strategies for the nationwide campaigns of the Sierra Club, the noted environmental organization.

"Being offered a job with Sierra Club’s Environmental Law Program in San Francisco falls safely within the realm of a 'dream job' opportunity," Saunders said. "The exceptional exposure to energy law we have here at TU Law has given me something unique to bring to the table as a student intern with Sierra Club, and I am excited to gain further knowledge and experiences to bring back with me in the fall."

Saunders will work with multiple attorneys on all aspects of litigation, including legal research, factual investigation, written memoranda, drafting court documents, attending court appearances, and assisting with discovery.

A Chesapeake Energy Scholar, Saunders is on the staff of TU Law’s Energy Law Journal and a student editor for the ABA's Year in Review Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources Law.

Saunders' undergraduate and graduate experience in environmental biology at Tulane University in New Orleans shaped her interests into what they are now.

"While in New Orleans, I developed a deep-rooted desire to pursue an environmental career that was cultured by both my studies and broader experiences while living in that unique city," Saunders said. "Gaining a thorough knowledge of environmental sciences fueled my motivation for obtaining a legal degree and gaining the tools to apply that knowledge in a constructive and tangible way outside of the lab. My aspiration is to eventually find a job that allows me to merge both my love for the environment and science with my growing passion for law and policy."
