Richard E. Ducey
Professor Ducey earned his J.D. in 1977 from the New England School of Law, and his M.S. in 1983 from Simmons College. Prior to joining the College of Law faculty in 1986, he was associate director of the Thurgood Marshall Law Library at the University of Maryland School of Law. He attributes his early interest in the law to his college years when he was involved in local politics and elected as a Justice of the Peace in New Milford, Connecticut. Professor Ducey coordinates the introductory research and orientation programs, known as PreWeek, for incoming first year law students. Professor Ducey teaches the first year research course and also lectures on advanced legal research techniques in specialized areas of the law.
"I have developed an outstanding introductory legal research program for first-year law students. Through a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on practice sessions in the MLIC, the Introduction to Legal Research course teaches basic research skills and introduces the research process.
As Director of the MLIC, I strive to provide a comprehensive legal collection and intellectual access to the legal information that will meet the needs of our patrons. The MLIC also provides a comfortable environment for study and research, as well as a highly skilled and service-oriented staff to serve students, faculty, and other patrons. For many years, I have been involved in building design and construction planning for the College of Law as we endeavor to update our facility in order to further enhance the educational experience of each student."
