Charles L. Owens Scholarship

 

Established in 2002 by Judge Charles L. Owens, friends and colleagues to provide scholarships to law students who have achieved academically and have financial need.  After receiving his Juris Doctor from The University of Tulsa College of Law in 1960, he practiced law with E.L. Goodwin until 1963 when he was appointed the first African American Assistant Attorney General in Oklahoma history.   In 1968, Judge Owens became the first African American judge in Oklahoma history when Governor Dewey Bartlett appointed him to the Oklahoma District Court Seventh Judicial District.
