Faculty Accomplishments:
Professor Rex Zedalis. Professor Zedalis has recently published a new book, Claims Against Iraqi Oil and Gas: Legal Considerations and Lessons Learned (2010). This is his 3rd book, and second published by Cambridge University Press. Currently, Cambridge has outside reviewers considering his proposal for a follow-up volume tentatively entitled Oil and Gas In Iraq’s Disputed Kurdish Territories.
Professor Hannah Wiseman. Professor Wiseman gave a talk entitled "Regulatory Responses to the New Energy 'Goldrush,’” at the Florida State University College of Law’s Environmental Certificate Seminar. She also gave a workshop presentation entitled “Regional Energy Governance” to the FSU’s faculty.
Professor Robert Butkin. Professor Robert Butkin has been appointed by the President of the National Uniform Law Commission to a drafting committee for a new proposed Uniform Act on Asset Freezing Orders.
Student Accomplishments:
Kelsey May (JD ’10) was featured in USA TODAY on August 24 in “Grads taking law schools to task for poor job market.” Kelsey, co-author of What the L? 25 Things We Wish We'd Known Before Going to Law School, agrees law school can be tricky to navigate but says the anger is "misplaced. ... There should be some level of (personal) responsibility."
Alumni News:
Charissa Eichman (LL.M ’10), accepted the Tribal and Public Lands Stewardship Internship with the National Wildlife Federation for an 11 month term. It is located in Boulder, Colorado.
Michael N. Cook (JD ’99) was recently appointed Associate Judge to fill the Circuit Court vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Annette A. Eckert, resident Circuit Judge of St. Clair County, Illinois in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit. The appointment is effective on October 1, 2010. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he served as an associate with the Belleville law firm of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin; he was also an assistant public defender for St. Clair County. While a student at The University of Tulsa College of Law, Judge Cook served on the Board of Advocates and in the Elder Law Legal Clinic. He graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
