If you need assistance in your research, help in finding materials, instruction in the use of automated services or print sources, the Reference Librarians will be happy to provide these services. The Reference Desk is located opposite the Circulation Desk area. Reference Librarians are available through the regular school year Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. ; Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 1:00-5:00 p.m; please see our hours page for summer hours. The Circulation Desk staff can also help with directional questions and will refer you to a librarian for more complex problems.
Computer Based Research/Electronic Resources
The MLIC subscribes to a variety of titles in an electronic format, either in CD-ROM or through web sites on the Internet. Most of these electronic resources are available to all MLIC patrons. A few of the titles available in electronic format are listed below.
- LEXIS-NEXIS Congressional - includes indexes and abstracts for Congressional materials, as well as full text of some publications.
- LegalTrac - available from the MLIC homepage, this database provides indexing for legal and non-legal periodicals.
- Westpack: The MLIC has a subscription to Westlaw available at dedicated terminals in the Schwartz computer lab. The subscription includes most primary and secondary materials available on Westlaw.
Chapman Charitable Trust Student Resource Lab
This lab, located at the bottom of the stairs on first floor, offers 13 networked PCs and two networked printers. Students have access to the full range of web-based and networked electronic products provided by the MLIC, including Lexis, Westlaw, and CALI. Each machine runs MS Office, WordPerfect, and Internet Explorer. The Lexis and Westlaw stand-alone printers are located near the Student Resource Lab.
Bernard M. Schwartz Government Information Center (MLIC 1306)
Designed primarily to provide access to the growing number of government documents available only via the Internet, the Schwartz Government Information Center is also open for general student use. A full range of networked and Internet-based resources is available in the Center. Equipped with 12 PCs and 1 networked printer, this area may also be used for computer training sessions.
Technology Training Center (MLIC 3108)
Located on the 3rd floor of the MLIC, the Technology Training Center is a fully-electronic classroom that seats 24. Outfitted with network drops for each seat this area is used for large-group computer training sessions as well as regular classroom for College of Law classes.
