Minutes of the Oklahoma Law Librarians Meeting
Oklahoma State University ? Patent Depository Stillwater, OK
Attendance: Courtney Selby, Lou Lindsey, Patti Monk, Marta Swanson, Kathy Broad, Venita Hoover, Ann Long, David Gay and Faye Hadley
Group began by thanking the OSU staff (John Phillips and Suzanne Holcomb) for their hospitality and information and thanked David Gay for arranging this meeting.
Venita Hoover opened the meeting with an inquiry about the Career Fair, spring 2005. Ann Long suggested that she work with Courtney Selby on putting together something for the Career Fair at University of Oklahoma.
Ann also volunteered to coordinate the "Day in the Life" project.
The next meeting will be held on Friday, May 13th in Oklahoma City at the County Law Library. Venita will arrange for a tour of the new Metropolitan Library.
There was some discussion concerning Law Day (May 1st) and Law Week (first week in May), but there was not much interest from academic law librarians because the timing of the event conflicts with end of the semester duties at law schools. It was agreed that those who are able to attend the Luncheon (May 2nd) do so, and if others are planning any events they will let the group know via the listserv.
David Gay mentioned that the Oklahoma chapter of SLA is sponsoring an event featuring Lolly Gasaway in Tulsa at the Police Dept. on Friday, February 11. He also mentioned that SLA has more funding than we do, so we may want to work with them in the future.
Venita distributed job description surveys that she subsequently collected and will tabulate ? after making the survey available to all OKLawLibbers online ? and publish the results on the listserv.
Attorney General Opinions - Neither Terri Calloway nor Lee Peoples attended the meeting ? so there was no report. Bar Journal ? Venita Hoover, Elaine Bradshaw, Lynda Barnes ? no report. Report on Bylaws ? Judy Morgan, Vicky Santana, and Nickie Singleton (none of whom were at the meeting ? so no report). Marketing Committee ? Lisa Bowles, Faye Hadley. Faye reported that the Marketing Committee had nothing to report.
David brought up the issue that GPO recently reported that Selective Depository Libraries, after October 2005, will no longer receive anything in print, that is not on the ?Essential Titles List.?
Barbara Miller (OSU) has volunteered to make available to OKLawLib list the ALA notice concerning the GPO elimination of print materials.
David will post the message from the AALL on the GPO?s plan to the OKLawLib listserv.
Lou announced that TU is hosting the Annual Meeting of MAALL in October 2006 ? everyone is invited!
