Nathan Williams Joined the Ohio Education Association as a Labor Relations Consultant. OEA is a state affiliate of the NEA, and represents public school teachers, support staff, and higher education faculty and staff in the state of Ohio. An LRC represents local unions in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, disciplinary actions and arbitrations, and acts as an advisor on political and educational issues for members.
Melissa Powell, Iron County, Michigan, prosecuting attorney, recently served as the main speaker at a special Memorial Day observance at the newly opened Iron River Veterans Memorial. Powell began her career with the Powell Law Office in Iron River in 1997. In 1999, she moved to Saginaw County where she worked primarily in domestic relations and criminal law before returning to Iron County in 2002. At that time, she was appointed chief assistant prosecutor. Powell is active in the Crystal Falls Lions Club, the Iron County Historical and Museum Society and a local women’s hockey team. Michael Leonard, partner in the Philadelphia office of Fox Rothschild LLP, has been recognized in the World Trademark Review 1000 for the fourth consecutive year. Leonard was individually recognized in the categories of Trademark Enforcement and Litigation and Prosecution and Strategy.
Fern Holland has been posthumously honored in her hometown of Miami, Oklahoma. The Community Crisis Center, a Miami non-profit which provides shelter and assistance to victims of domestic violence in northeast Oklahoma,dedicated the newly-opened Fern L. Holland Advocacy Center. In addition to the center, there is a garden that will be maintained by volunteers and friends in Holland’s memory. Beginning in 2003, Holland worked in Iraq to promote women’s rights under the US-led Provisional Authority. She was murdered by gunmen posing as Iraqi police on March 9, 2004.
