Professor Piety will discuss the controversial Supreme Court decision from last term, "Citizens United," which invalidated portions of the McCain-Feingold Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act and lifted some restrictions on corporate participation in elections. Professor Piety's article, Citizens United and the Threat to the Regulatory State, was recently selected for publication by the Michigan Law Review. Her article will be published in the “First Impressions” section of the publication.

Professor Piety is a 1991 graduate of the University of Miami School of Law and received an LL.M. from Harvard in 2000.

Prior to joining the Tulsa faculty she was a Teaching Fellow at Stanford Law School and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Professor Piety has published several articles about commercial speech, the First Amendment and advertising and culture. She has also published articles on jurisprudence, teaching, civil forfeiture and the war on drugs in numerous journals including the Cardozo Law Review, the University of Miami Law Review, the Tulsa Law Review and the Vermont Law Review. In Spring 2007 she was a Visiting Professor at Florida State University teaching evidence and a seminar on commercial speech.
