With graduates now living and practicing all over the country, The University of Tulsa College of Law is planning nine new chapters of its alumni association – the next one slated for Oklahoma City.
The first chapter outside Tulsa was formed last year in Washington, D.C. Before the end of the next academic year, chapters will be organized in St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Colorado Springs, Miami and Chicago.
Peter Bradford, of Conner and Winters, heads the Oklahoma City group. At their first gathering, more than 40 TU law alumni filled the home of Mike and Susan Turpen to kick off a fund-raising campaign honoring fellow alumnus, Judge Charles L. Owens. Also attending: Supreme Court Justice Daniel Boudreau and his wife, Faith; Judge Charles Chapel and his wife, Diane; and Judge Owens’ wife, Edythe.
“With a president and a small planning council, we’re in business,” Bradford said. “We’re eager to help out with student recruitment and career placement activities, and we’ll be ‘the welcoming committee’ for alumni new to the area.”
Members will also be “reporters,” supplying information and photos for a special chapter news section in Tulsa Law Magazine. The law school will provide special services for its chapters. “We hope to offer Continuing Legal Education programs and networking opportunities,” said Dean Martin H. Belsky, emphasizing the importance of staying in touch with alumni outside Tulsa.
