Public Interest Summer Stipend Awards Announced

We are pleased to announce that for summer 2009 there are 7 public interest summer stipend recipients. Competition was stiff with 23 applications but 32% of applicants still received a stipend, three 1Ls and four 2Ls. The funds for the summer stipends come from a verity of sources the Yaffe endowment, Public Interest Law Society fund raisers, and donations.
The 1Ls are:
Jenna Carl who is volunteering at Central Dallas Ministries - Law Center AND Justice for Our Neighbors - Refugee Services in Dallas, TX;
Lynn Hermanson who is volunteering at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, Animal Protection Unit in Los Angeles, CA; and
Jenny Proehl who is volunteering at Neighbor for Neighbor in Tulsa, OK
The 2Ls are:
Angela Monroe who is volunteering at Domestic Violence Intervention Services in Tulsa, OK;
Linda Smith who is volunteering at Colorado Legal Services in Denver, CO;
Ulysses Vargas who is volunteering at the Colorado Public Defender’s Office in Denver, CO; and
Samantha Walley who is volunteering at the Denton County Prosecutor’s Office in Denton, TX
Samantha Walley was also awarded a summer public interest stipend last year!
