The first annual TU Technology Summit, sponsored by ConocoPhillips, was held on November 4, 2010. The event was established to promote the technology field to the TU campus, and as such, students from all over campus participated in the evening’s festivities.

In the weeks prior to the event, students were presented with the question, “What technology has influenced your generation the most?” Student teams of two to three members then proposed an answer to that question. From twenty-two team submissions, 10 were selected to present their ideas at the event. The presenting teams chose technology concepts such as e-commerce, phone apps, iPhone, and so forth. After an audience text vote, the winning team was awarded $1,000, with second place receiving $500 and third $250. In addition to the contest, all students were given the opportunity to network with other participants (which included students, faculty and IT professionals). A professional panel closed out the event by allowing students to ask questions regarding the technology field, inquire about courses needed for a technology major, and to gain a greater understanding regarding what a Management Information Systems major’s or Computer Science major’s job would encompass. The panel was composed of recent TU graduates from the following companies: Bank of Oklahoma, ConocoPhillips, DataTronics, ONEOK, Solarc, Webco, and Williams.
