Collins College of Business Honors Outstanding Alumni and Students

The University of Tulsa's Collins College of Business honored three alumni and four students in April at its annual Honors and Awards Banquet at TU's Allen Chapman Activity Center.

Paul Coury, Chairman of Coury Properties Inc., and Stu Crum, President of Jiffy Lube International, were named the 2012 Outstanding Alumni for their professional achievements and leadership skills. The 2012 Fast Track Alumnus award was given to Binoy Agarwal who is Assistant Director for Applications in the Office of the Chief Information Officer at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C.

“Each year we are pleased to recognize select alumni and students who are making a positive impact in the business world as well as in the communities where they live and work,” said Gale Sullenberger, Dean of the Collins College of Business. “We congratulate them on their accomplishments and look forward to maintaining a strong connection with them for many years.”

Paul CouryAfter graduating in 1982, Coury worked in banking before beginning a hotel consulting and management business. He purchased his first boutique hotel in 1988, the legendary Mayo Hotel in Tulsa, and the Ambassador Hotel-Tulsa was added in 1999. In 2005, following numerous hotel development projects, the Ambassador Hotel Collection was founded. The firm has consulting projects across the region including two hotels under construction in Kansas City and Wichita with development plans for another hotel in Oklahoma City.

Stu CrumCrum came to The University of Tulsa on a football scholarship and graduated in 1982 with bachelor’s degree in marketing. While working on his MBA, he was drafted as a place-kicker by the New York Jets. After a three-year stint in the NFL and the United States Football league, Crum hung up his cleats for a career in the energy industry. He started as a marketing representative with Texaco in Tulsa where he held positions of increasing responsibility. After several global assignments, he was named General Manager Retail for Sales and Operations in 2003 for Shell in Latin America where he managed retail operations in 36 Latin American countries. In 2005, Crum accepted the position of Retail General Manager Strategy and Portfolio (M&A) for Shell Retail North America and in June 2008 he was appointed Vice President Sales, National Accounts North America for Shell Lubricants. In May of 2011, he was appointed President of Jiffy Lube International Inc., a wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Shell Oil Company.

Binoy AgarwalAgarwal was the first graduate of TU’s prestigious Cyber Corps program to also simultaneously earn an MBA, which he completed in 2006. He was hired by the Federal Trade Commission in 2007 and three years later was promoted to Associate Executive Director tasked with a quarter-billion dollar operating budget, personnel hiring, growth forecasting and managing the capabilities of the IT infrastructure. In 2011, Agarwal became Assistant Director for Applications in the Office of the Chief Information Officer to take on his current position managing a critical new area in the Office of the CIO. Since assuming this new role, he has substantially upgraded the agency’s software and technology infrastructure, including its operating system, litigation support system, asset management system and IT support system. Agarwal is a member of the TU Alumni Association National Board and is an active member of the Washington, D.C. Alumni Association Chapter Board. He served as President of the D.C. Chapter from 2009-2011.

The TU Collins College of Business also honored the 2012 Outstanding Seniors —Brian Baynton, Hannah Becker, Amanda Cooper and Taryn Dewitt. The college also recognized faculty and staff award recipients, Beta Gamma Sigma initiates, Sigma Theta Tau initiates, certificate of merit recipients and bachelor’s degree with honors recipients. College and department awards were also announced.
