Industry leaders and distinguished seniors recognized for accomplishments at annual awards banquet.

The University of Tulsas Collins College of Business honored two alumni and five students during its annual Honors and Awards Banquet April 25 at TUs Allen Chapman Activity Center. Randa Vernon, assurance partner at HoganTaylor LLP, was named the 2014 Outstanding Alumna and Eric Marshall, founder and brewmaster at Marshall Brewing Company, was named the 2014 Fast Track Alumnus.

For more than 20 years, Vernon has provided audit and accounting services to area clients in many industries, including employee benefit plans, distribution, manufacturing, service and retail. Vernon graduated cum laude from The University of Tulsa in 1993 with a bachelors degree in accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. After eight years in the audit department at Arthur Andersen, she joined the firm of Tullius Taylor Sartain & Sartain. In 2005, Vernon was promoted to assurance partner, becoming the firms first female partner. In 2009, the firm went through a merger, becoming what is now known as HoganTaylor LLP. HoganTaylor has grown to more than 200 employees and has offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and northwest Arkansas. In 2012, Vernon was promoted to partner in charge of assurance, following in the footsteps of one of the firms founding partners, Jim Taylor.

Marshall is a third-generation University of Tulsa alumnus, earning a degree in international business and German in 2004. Marshall fell in love with beer and brewing from a cultural perspective while studying in Germany during his junior year of college. When he returned home, he saw a need for a local brewery in Tulsa and began plotting a course of study and apprenticeships. After graduating from TU, Marshall returned to Germany and studied brewing at the World Brewing Academy in Munich, where he was awarded the prestigious International Diploma in Brewing Technology and apprenticed at six different breweries in Germany. Marshall served as a brewer at Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, Penn., before moving back to Oklahoma in 2007 to start Tulsa’s first craft brewery. Marshall Brewing Companys handcrafted ales and lagers are sold in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.

Five graduating seniors received the 2014 David R. Lawson Outstanding Senior award in recognition of their leadership and accomplishments while students at TU: Curtis French, accounting; Thomas Porter, energy management and finance; Valerie Roarty, finance and economics; Hillary Stuart, energy management; and Yizhi Yan, marketing.
