Welcome Table - August 22-24, 2011
Welcome back to school! The Business Career Center helped students start the year off right by setting up in the north lobby of Helmerich Hall. The students were given the opportunity to meet the Business Career Center staff, pick up information about campus interviews and events, and have some refreshments! The Business Career Center looks forward to meeting with all business students this year.
Resume Workshop - August 25, 2011
At the first workshop of the fall semester, students were able to learn techniques for creating a winning resume. Participants also learned about how to interview successfully and a drawing was held for three portfolios and three business card holders. Using these techniques, TU business students will be able to effectively conduct their job search and land the internship or full-time position they want.
The presenter was Marsha Casebeer from U.S. Cellular, who was able to share many of the experiences she has encountered as an employer.
Networking Workshop - September 1, 2011
Students attending this workshop had the opportunity to learn about the importance of networking and how to make the most of every interaction with an employer. The workshop was presented by Sarah Phelps, Human Resources Advisor from Samson. A drawing was held for three portfolios and three business card holders.
Dress for Success Workshop - September 8, 2011
This event, presented by Jana Christian from The Etiquette School of Oklahoma, was a huge opportunity for students to learn what it takes to be a polished professional. An expert in business etiquette, Ms. Christian taught students all of the details of how to dress properly to make a great first impression. Handouts provided information for students to refer to when choosing the right attire for their business needs. Drawings were held for shoe polish and lint rollers, and one $50 and two $25 gift cards to help students get started picking out the perfect interview suit.
Interview Strategies Workshop - September 15, 2011
The biggest workshop of the semester so far was the Interview Strategies. This workshop was a great opportunity for students to learn firsthand what to expect and how to handle an interview. With fall recruitment happening right now at TU, these lessons will be very valuable to every student in attendance. Drawings were held for three portfolios and three business card holders. The workshop was presented by Janna Garretson of Bank of Oklahoma.
Cerner Corporation - Helmerich Hall Employer Visit - September 15, 2011
Cerner set up in the north lobby of Helmerich Hall for students to stop and visit with the representative about the company as an employer and possible job openings available.
Cerner is a worldwide company headquartered in Kansas City, MO specializing in providing IT solutions to the health care industry. Their systems optimize all health care operations from single-doctor practices to entire countries and they are committed to innovations that will continue to improve the health care industry.
Business Career Fair - September 21, 2011
Thirty-six employers set up booths in Helmerich Hall on September 21st for the Business Job Fair. Employers from all disciplines were there to talk to TU students about job opportunities and the careers they had to offer. Students were able to mingle and meet with many employers and network for new contacts. The job fair is very beneficial to students in their job search.
TEACH FOR AMERICA - Helmerich Hall Employer Visit - October 3, 2011
Teach for America set up in the north lobby of Helmerich Hall on Monday, October 3rd so students could visit about the opportunities available through this program.
Teach for America is a non-profit organization that recruits college students from all majors to teach for two years in rural or urban areas. It also partners with companies such as Google, McKinsey and Goldman Sachs so that business students can use their skills and make a difference in communities across the country, while receiving full compensation and extra aid to pay off student loans.
Northwestern Mutual Financial Network - Helmerich Hall Employer Visit - October 10, 2011
Northwestern Mutual Financial Network visited with students in the north lobby then provided an information session at noon. They are recruiting students interested in a career with a company whose interests are in financial investment, financial advising and financial planning. NMFN is ranked as one of the top 10 internships in the nation.
Founded in 1857, Northwestern Mutual has lived through the Civil War, the Crash of 1929, the Great Depression, two world wars, and numerous recessions. They are well-positioned to help people manage financial risk and achieve financial security in today's complex world.
Buckle - Helmerich Hall Employer Visit - October 17, 2011
The Buckle set up a display in the lobby of Helmerich Hall to visit with students about career opportunities. Buckle is a fast-growing clothing retailer and has many opportunities for students to get into the management career path. Their mission is to create the most enjoyable shopping experience for their guests and they do so with over 400 stores in 41 states, which carry name brand and private label apparel. Buckle also had an information session where students could learn about the many opportunities available.
Cargill - Helmerich Hall Employer Visit - October 19, 2011
Cargill had two employers set up in Helmerich Hall lobby to introduce their company to our students. Cargill is an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services. Founded in 1865, this privately held company employs 138,000 people in 63 countries. They help customers succeed through collaboration and innovation and are committed to sharing global knowledge and experience to help meet economic, environmental and social challenges. Thousands of customers turn to Cargill for innovative solutions across their four major market segments: agriculture, food, financial and industrial.
Cargill employers also had an information session Monday, October 24 from 6-7 p.m. in ACAC.
Becoming a Business Professor Workshop - October 28, 2011
This workshop was held to give students considering entering the academic field a chance to hear first-hand from TU business professors about what it takes to be a college professor. The panelists were Dr. Linda Nichols, Collins Professor of Accounting, Dr. Wen-Chyuan Chiang, Professor of Operations Management, Dr. Brian Walkup, Assistant Professor of Finance and Dr. Richard Redner, Professor of Mathematical Sciences. They answered a range of questions from applying to doctoral programs to the lifestyle of a business professor. Students were able to ask their own questions at the end of the workshop and acquired a lot of valuable information. Lunch was provided and a drawing held for a TU blanket and a portfolio.
