2012 Hurricane Athletic Training Clinic

The University of Tulsa Athletic Training Program will host its annual Athletic Training Clinic on July 11-12.

The purpose of the clinic is to provide high school students who have an interest in athletic training the opportunity to learn more about the profession and basic athletic training skills. The clinic will be taught by the athletic training staff at TU who are nationally certified and Oklahoma licensed athletic trainers.


  • Gain certification in Sport Safety Training through the American Red Cross
  • Ample time to practice athletic training skills
  • Use state-of-the-art facilities at The University of Tulsa
  • Taught by TU certified athletic trainers

Workshop topics will include:

  • Introduction to Athletic Training
  • Injury Prevention
  • Taping and Wrapping Techniques
  • Wound Care
  • Common injuries of the foot and ankle, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand
  • Emergency procedures
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Alternate sections and topics available for advanced participants

Upon completion of this clinic, students will:

  • Have a greater understanding of the anatomy of the human body
  • Be able to apply multiple taping techniques to prevent injury and help injured athletes return to play quicker
  • Understand the mechanisms of common injuries
  • Have basic knowledge and skills in the evaluation of common injuries
  • Be able to immediately care for injuries
  • Be able to apply various types of splints to the extremities
  • Understand immediate care procedures for suspected injuries to the spine
  • Understand the importance of recognizing emergency situations
  • Have a basic knowledge and skills to assist their high school teams
  • Students who pass the minimum standards will receive Sport Safety Training Certificates from the American Red Cross

Cost: $200 Commuter/$300 Resident

All students receive:

  • T-shirt
  • Sport Safety Training materials
  • Lunch (breakfast and dinner for overnight students)
  • Supplies

Location: Donald W. Reynolds Center on the TU Campus

Time: Begins at 8:00am each morning and ends at 5:30pm each day
